What is Roman Chamomile Water (Hydrosol)?
Calming, caring and soothing for body and mind: that is Chamomile water. Apply it to the skin for a caring and hydrating effect or spray your bedding with it for a wonderful night's sleep.
Chamomile water or hydrosol is what remains after making Chamomile Essential Oil, through the steam distillation of Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile). Hydrosols have a much milder effect than essential oils and therefore have a wide applicability.
Advantages
Cares for sensitive skin
The mild, caring effect of chamomile makes Chamomile water ideal for red and sensitive skin. Use as a toner or place a clean cloth soaked in chamomile water on irritated skin for deep care and hydration.
For tired eyes
Make a compress of Chamomile water and use on tired eyes. You will notice that the redness slowly disappears and your eyelids become supple and moist again. Perfect after a long day behind your laptop.
For a calm atmosphere
Chamomile has a euphoric, intoxicating scent that takes away stress and creates peace and space to process heavy emotions. Use the water as a room spray or spray your bedding with it for a deep, restful sleep. Tip: spray on your meditation cushion for an extra effective meditation.
How do you use it?
As a toner for your face
Chamomile water is a wonderful toner for sensitive skin. Combine with other hydrosols such as Rosewater or Melissa water. Witch Hazel is also often used in toners.
In DIY care products
In water-based care products, you can often replace the water with a hydrosol. Certainly products for sensitive skin get that little bit extra by incorporating chamomile water.
Store chamomile water in the refrigerator.
What's so special about it?
Chamomile has been used as a skin care product for thousands of years. The Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and also the Saxons considered Chamomile to be a very healing herb. The great thing about Chamomile water is that very little plant material is needed to make it, especially compared to Chamomile Essential Oil. This gives Chamomile water a mild effect that everyone can enjoy.
